Create Your Major Definite Purpose

A Major Definite Purpose (MDP) is a clearly defined, highly specific goal or objective that serves as the central focus of your life or work. Coined by Napoleon Hill in Think and Grow Rich, it’s the guiding principle that directs your actions, fuels your motivation, and helps you achieve meaningful success.

Key Characteristics of a Major Definite Purpose:

1. Specific and Measurable: It’s not vague. You know exactly what you want and can track your progress.

2. Time-Bound: It has a deadline or clear timeline for achievement.

3. Personal: It aligns with your values, passions, and vision for your life.

4. Action-Oriented: It requires deliberate, consistent effort to accomplish.

5. Emotionally Compelling: It excites and motivates you, acting as a driving force.

The Major Definite Purpose is so important because it lets your brain focus on one main, specific goal. This is the key to all achievement in life. It will help you visualize and will use the Law of Attraction to pull you closer and closer to what you want to achieve.

How

1. Define Your Desire Clearly

• Write down your goal in clear, specific terms.

• Be precise about what you want, when you want it, and how much (if financial or measurable).

Example:

“I will earn $1,000,000 by December 31, 2026, through my marketing business by helping e-commerce brands scale profitably.”

2. Determine Exactly What You’ll Give in Return

• Clearly state what you will offer in exchange for achieving your goal. Success requires a reciprocal exchange of value.

Example:

“I will dedicate 60 hours a week, build client relationships, and invest in continuous learning to improve my marketing skills.”

3. Establish a Definite Date

• Set a realistic but ambitious deadline to achieve your goal. This creates urgency and focus.

Example:

“By December 31, 2026.”

4. Create a Clear Plan

• Write a step-by-step action plan to achieve your purpose. Include immediate steps and long-term strategies.

Example:

  • Learn how to fulfill my service

  • Learn how to do sales

  • Learn how to write

  • Do outreach to 500 peop[le per day

  • Create three YouTube videos per week

  • Create three Twitter posts per day

  • Send three newsletters per week

  • Sell five clients at $2,000 per month

5. Write a Major Definite Purpose Statement

• Combine the above elements into a concise, written statement. Write it in the present tense, as if already achieved. This programs your subconscious mind for belief and action.

Example Statement:

“I am earning $1,000,000 annually by December 31, 2026, through my marketing business by helping e-commerce brands scale profitably. In exchange, I provide exceptional service, invest in client success, and dedicate 60 hours per week to growing my business.”

6. Read Your Statement Daily

• Read your MDP statement out loud twice daily—once in the morning and once before bed.

• As you read, visualize yourself achieving the goal and feel the emotions of success.

Mistakes To Avoid

  • Do not focus on more than one goal in your Major Definite Purpose.

  • Do not half-ass it. Follow the six steps precisely.

Examples

I, Matthew Larsen, earn $1 million per month in personal income by December 31st, 2026.

In exchange for this money, here is what I will do:

Make an average of 4 YouTube videos per day in 2025 and 2026 to get attention, drive traffic and generate income. Each of these videos will be better than the previous one.

Write four best selling business books in 2025 and 2026 to get attention, drive traffic and generate income. These will all be elite books that will stand the test of time.

Get 15 clients per month for my crypto agency (average lifetime value of $85k)

Get 90 clients per month for 1000x Leads ($4,000 each)

Build my low-ticket community to 2,000 members ($97/mo each)

I have absolute faith that I can achieve this goal. I can already see it in my mind. I will continually improve my focus and standards each and every day, and work sun up to sun down.

What I Did/What I Do

My Major Definite Purpose is the one above.

For my previous major definite purpose, it was to scale to $500k per month with my agency within 12 months and I was able to scale to $900k per month, so I overachieved a bit.
